Wiedmann Bible Foundation Launched

Become Part of the Wiedmann Bible Family with the new Adopt-A-Picture Program

We have exciting news! We have just launched the Wiedmann Bible Foundation to raise even more awareness for my father’s work! I would like to invite you to become part of the Wiedmann Bible family.

The 501(c)(3) non-profit organization is based in Raleigh, North Carolina. We aim to artfully engage people with the Bible through artistic expressions and to honor my father’s legacy by publishing his masterpiece in all forms.

The foundation will publish an English version of the ART-Edition soon. After the successful debut at the Museum of the Bible in Washington D.C., where the Wiedmann Bible became one of the most popular exhibitions, the new foundation plans on showcasing my father’s work and having tours throughout the country. Here people can gather, have the opportunity to experience the visual narrative of the Holy Scriptures as well as worship and enjoy God’s word in pictures, i.e., in Museums, Town Halls, Stadiums, Concert Halls, and all venues that are helpful to fulfill its mission and its vision.

HOWEVER, we have something even more exciting for you! Keep on scrolling down!

US students meet The Wiedmann Bible

When the exchange students from Los Angeles (USA) arrived in Bonn, they did not expect to see anything like this. They are participating in a program that is being organized by the Academy for International Education. On Monday (September 30th), they met with Martin Wiedmann, who introduced them to the only visual narrative of the complete Bible. The students visited the Garden of Eden via Virtual Reality or studied various Bible verses through the mobile App. Of course, they had a lot of questions for Martin and were very curious about the story behind this amazing artwork.

Museum of the Bible receives unique German Bible for collection

PRESS RELEASE

Washington/Stuttgart, September 25th, 2019 — From today on, the largest Bible museum in the world will call the world’s longest painted Bible its own. President and CEO Ken McKenzie will accept the gift of one of the limited print copies on behalf of the Museum of the Bible in Washington D.C. (USA).

Occasion for the handover of the golden ART-Edition is that one of the museum’s most popular exhibitions has come to an end. For one year Willy Wiedmann’s works had been here on display. The exhibition was extended twice. On June 1st, 2019, more than 400 volunteers and staff members unfolded the nearly mile-long Wiedmann Bible facsimile along the Reflecting Pool at the Lincoln Memorial. This event was the first complete unveiling of the German artwork in the United States.

“This was our first exhibition in the US. The feedback we have received was amazing. I am very thankful that we had the opportunity to showcase my father’s work here at the Museum of the Bible,” says Martin Wiedmann, the artist’s son. “In order for everyone to be able to experience this unique Bible, I decided to donate one of the limited ART-Editions to the museum.“

By now, among others, Pope Francis, the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz, the Bavarian State Library in Munich, the Duchess Anna Amalia Library in Weimar, and the Bible museum bibliorama in Stuttgart added the Wiedmann Bible ART-Edition to their inventory.

A newly founded non-profit organisation has taken on the mission to artfully engage people with the Holy Scriptures through artistic expressions. The Wiedmann Bible Foundation plans on showcasing the German artwork throughout the US and wants to publish an ART-Edition in English, soon. Institutions interested in future exhibitions can contact the foundation at info@wiedmannbible.org

The Wiedmann Bible goes Romania

The Wiedmann Bible on Tour

ART-Edition for the Evangelical Church A.B. in Romania

Two years ago Erika Klemm could not resist. She had to come back to the booth of this unique visual narrative of the Bible. It fascinated and inspired her.

The surprise was huge when she received an email a few weeks ago. Martin Wiedmann asked if the Evangelical Church Romania would give him the honor to accept the Wiedmann Bible ART-Edition as a gift from him. Erika Klemm did not have to think twice. The EKR is a German-speaking Church in Romania.

On June 16th the time had come. Martin Wiedmann and his family arrived in Hermannstadt, Romania. Amongst the first ones to see the Wiedmann Bible were kids and officials. After a service at the Johanniskirche, Martin Wiedmann gifted the ART-Edition to the EKR.

It is the first Wiedmann Bible in Romania and highly appreciated as devotional paintings have a long tradition there.

The Wiedmann Bible ART-Edition is now showcased at the state consistory in Hermannstadt, Romania.

A Historic Day For The Wiedmann Bible

Longest Bible Makes History

Art and Theology united in Washington D.C. Event

Simply breathtaking! That sums the unfolding of the Wiedmann Bible up pretty well. Over 400 volunteers came together on June 1st to hold this German masterpiece created by Willy Wiedmann.

Hundrets of people came to see what this event was about and were amazed by the artwork and the story.  The Wiedmann Bible was unfolded for the very first time in the US at the historic Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The event was arganized by the Museum of the Bible and Martin Wiedmann, the artist’s son.

“I would like to thank the Museum of the Bible and all the volunteers for their amazing help and outstanding engagement. It was an incredible experience,” says Martin Wiedmann. “You can’t put it into words. To see my father’s work in this historic place. The people’s reaction was overwhelming. Some even had tears in their eyes. That only encourages me to continue my mission.”

Intriguing artwork

It is different, it is colourful, it is challenging, as well as old and new at the same time. Visitors are intrigued by Willy Wiedmann’s artwork at the Museum of the Bible. Because this exhibition is different from others. The museum’s Lead Curator Amy Van Dyke will tell you why!

They did not expect to see something like this…

Art and Bible – Bible and Art….Other’s have done it before but the very first visitors of the Wiedmann Bible exhibition at the Museum of the Bible in Washington were not prepared for what they saw. They were in awe, impressed or moved to tears – even Martin Wiedmann himself.

“When I arrived on Monday and saw how beautifully everything was set up, I had tears in my eyes. The entire team of the Museum of the Bible did an amazing job. My father would have been to happy to see that his life’s work will finally help people engage with the Bible”.

Within the first two days hundreds of visitors have seen the exhibition. They were so kind to share their experience with us.

Nancy wrote: “I am amazed and fascinated by Willy Wiedmann’s astonishing life, talents and accomplishments, especially his Bible illustrations. He’s more than a 21st century Leonardo da Vinci given that he was also a musician and composer, author and publisher. What is even more impressive is that his son Martin, […] and his family were able to figure out how to publish Willy’s uniquely beautiful, illustrated Bible, and then merchandise, market and get it exhibited at the Museum of the Bible here in Washington.”

Kathleen wrote: “Thank you for sharing yours and your father’s amazing story with us. We couldn’t wait to recommend the exhibition to all of our friends. We look forward to keeping up with the collection and it’s journey. We wish you the best!”

A world record for the Wiedmann Bible

It is official! The Wiedmann Bible has set world record.  More than half a year organisers and participants have been waiting for the result to come back. The Guinness World Record Team now confirmed that the Wiedmann Bible, featuring  a surface of 645.2 square meters, is now officially the world’s largest concertina book.

“We are very happy about the news. The world record attempt in Magdeburg was a wonderful experience with many unforgettable encounters. We not only want to thank the organisers reformation2017, the Evangelischer Kirchenkreis Magdeburg and the Ottostadt Magdeburg, but also to the hundreds of volunteers,“ said Martin Wiedmann, son of the deceased artist.

On 7 May 2017, the Kirchentag was launched in Magdeburg (Germany) with a world record attempt. Over a distance of 1517 meters, more than 500 volunteers showcased the Wiedmann Bible for the first time in its entire length long the Elbe. Originally the organisers aimed to break the record for the world’s longest Bible. Since this category does not exist, however, the Guinness World Record team offered the record for the largest concertina book.

The Wiedmann Bible is Bible and art at the same time. It depicts the complete Old and New Testament in 3,333 hand-painted images. The artist behind this work is Willy Wiedmann. He worked on it for 16 years. Unfortunately, he could not publish the Bible during his lifetime. The reason: The technology was not yet advanced enough to convert such a mammoth work into a portable form. After Wiedmann’s death, his son Martin discovered the Bible in the attic and decided to face the challenge of fulfilling his father’s dream. He had all the pictures scanned. Meanwhile, a digital bible world has been created with virtual reality, an app and a touchscreen terminal. In February, the Wiedmann Bible will be published as a book for the first time as an exclusive and limited ART-Edition in cooperation with the German Bible Society.
